With the signing of former MLB shortstop Tzu-wei Lin, the Auckland Tuatara have significantly strengthened their roster in preparation for their comeback to the Australian Baseball League this season.
After five years in the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins, where he hit.223, Lin joins the Tuatara.
Despite not participating in any of the five games against the Dodgers, the 28-year-old was a part of the Red Sox squad that won the World Series 2018.
Lin has stayed with the Long Island Ducks in New York since leaving the Twins last year, but Auckland CEO Regan Wood said Lin would soon go to Australia to join the Tuatara.
According to Wood, getting someone with Lin’s expertise and talent is huge. He will bat well at this level and can play second base, shortstop, or third base.
“Learning from him and rubbing shoulders with someone of his prominence in the game will be fantastic for some of our young Kiwi guys,” said the coach.
“Asia’s play will also draw a lot of attention, and that’s wonderful for our franchise and the league.”
In the Tuatara’s first season in the Australian Baseball League since 2020 due to the Covid-19 epidemic, Wood joins four prospects from the Texas Rangers, three from the San Diego Padres, and a speaker of local players confirmed on the team.
The Tuatara stated that as they prepare for their comeback to the ABL, they anticipate announcing more additions in the coming days.
