Kevin Love and Donovan Mitchell create NBA history with the Cavs’ victory

Kevin Love and Donovan Mitchell history

It may have been a little more shocking for Cleveland to be one of the NBA’s top three-point shooting teams without Darius Garland. But that is indeed what is taking place.

Whatever it is, the three-ball keeps going in the Cavs’ favor.

The Cavaliers had the highest 3FG% in the NBA going into Sunday’s game against the Knicks, at.417. Then they went out and made 23/50 of their behind-the-arc shots, shooting 46 percent.

Sixteen of the 23 made threes by Kevin Love and Donovan Mitchell together, each making eight. Only twice in the annals of the NBA have teammates combined to make eight or more three-pointers in a single contest.

Kevin Love contributed sixteen of his 29 points in the 4th quarter as the Cleveland Cavaliers rallied to defeat the New York Knicks 121-108 on Sunday night. Donovan Mitchell contributed 38 points and a career-high 12 assists.

Cleveland defeated New York 37-15 in the fourth quarter thanks to the combined 28 points from Mitchell and Love. The Cavaliers returned from a nine-point deficit thanks to Love’s five made 3-pointers, Mitchell’s 12 points, and their combined four-point performances.

In 50 attempts, Cleveland made 23 3-pointers, a franchise record. Dean Wade was 6 for eight from beyond the arc and scored a career-high 22 points, while Mitchell and Love both made 8 of 13 attempts.

Love remarked, “This team never gives up the fight. “You have to win ugly sometimes, and we accomplished that tonight. We just started going as Dean scored big shots, Donovan was finding players out there, and I was too. Playing with these guys is incredible.

For the Cavaliers, who have won five straight games since losing their season-opening in Toronto, Evan Mobley added 16 points. Additionally, Love absorbed two charges, including one from Julius Randle in the fourth.

The Knicks went into the fourth quarter with their greatest lead ever, 93-84, thanks to Jalen Brunson’s 12 points and three assists in the third. While Randle and RJ Barrett each scored 15 points for New York, Brunson and Evan Fournier finished with 16 points.

According to Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau, games like this show us where we stand and what we must do to win. Cleveland has excellent basketball right now. That group is playing outstanding basketball.

Jarrett Allen, an All-Star center, contributed six points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Cavaliers, and Caris LeVert contributed eight assists. In a 132-123 victory in overtime on Friday night in Boston, Mitchell and LeVert each scored 41 points.

Three-time All-Star Mitchell led the Cavaliers to a 10-point lead over his hometown team in the first quarter with 15 points on five 3-pointers.

Mitchell thought he would be dealt to the Knicks throughout the summer, but on September 1, Cleveland swooped in with a more substantial offer. Three first-round picks, rookie Ochai Agbaji, Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, and two selection swaps, were acquired by Utah in exchange.

Mitchell was on fire early, hitting five three-pointers in the first quarter alone. Late in the fourth quarter, Love added five threes of his own, which helped Cleveland eke out the victory.

According to Cavaliers coach J.B., “Donovan was not going to allow us to lose this game.” said Bickerstaff. “He completed the task at both ends. He’s a fully developed basketball player. This guy is the best. What he cannot do on the floor, I don’t know.

With a left eye laceration, All-Star point guard Darius Garland missed Cleveland’s fifth straight game. Since Raptors defender Gary Trent Jr. poked his eye on October 19, Garland has not participated in any games.

Spida is now the second player in NBA history to have five 30-point games in their first six with a new team, and since we’re on the subject, I’ll mention it.

I believe this won’t be the case Cavaliers’ only epic performance this season.
