The Golden State Warriors held on against the Oklahoma City Thunder to win 128-120, avoiding giving up another double-digit lead on the road.
With a barrage of outside shooting, the Warriors quickly took the lead against the Thunder. Golden State owned a 15-point lead going into halftime after leading 38-20 at the end of the first quarter.
The Thunder trimmed the Warriors’ lead to 15 early in the third quarter, but it seemed like they were continually making another three to cruise to a 20+ point victory. That must be the case with Thunder roster from the previous season or the Warriors club from the past. However, the Dubs’ offensive pace slowed as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander helped Oklahoma City surge after a rocky start.
With four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Thunder closed the gap to one possession and a few points, but Jordan Poole and Steph Curry drained back-to-back triples to seal the victory.
Curry scored 38 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, distributed 12 assists, and shot 12-for-20 in another MVP-caliber effort. Adding 28 points and 7 rebounds, Klay Thompson. Draymond Green contributed 7 points, 9 rebounds, 12 assists, and two steals to the final stat line.
With 31 points and 7 rebounds, Gilgeous-Alexander was the Thunder’s top scorer. With his 21 points, Josh Giddey had 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.
On Wednesday, the Warriors’ road journey will continue when Golden State plays the Timberwolves. The first tip is set for 5:00 PM Pacific time.
