According to the source, the Mariners reached a one-year, $7 million deal with free-agent outfielder AJ Pollock last Saturday to bolster their roster. The club still needs to confirm the agreement, but a medical is still required.
Pollock, 35, is hitting .245/.292/.389 with 14 homers and 56 RBIs in 527 appearances for the White Sox in 2022. Those numbers are down from his 2021 season with the Dodgers when he hit 297/. 355/. 536 with 21 homers & 69 RBIs in 422 games.
Pollock, who had a .935 OPS against southpaws last year, is projected to start in left field for the Mariners in 2023, playing centerfield alongside American League (AL) Rookie of the Year Julio Rodriguez and rookie Teoscar Hernan. Des served as the right hand. Last month, the Mariners added 2nd baseman Kolten Wong in a trade with the Brewers that landed Seattle’s starting left fielder, Jesse Wink, in 2022 and Abraham Toro (infielder) in return.
Pollock was an All-Star & 2015 Gold Glove winner with the Diamondbacks, who took him in the (17th pick overall) 1st round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He played seven seasons (2012-2018) with Arizona before signing as a free agent with the LA Dodgers before the 2019 season. The Dodgers traded him to the White Sox for Craig Kimbrel before the 2022 season.
