Jamal Murray scored 23 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter as the Denver Nuggets drew to a close with a 108-103 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday and closed out their NBA Western Conference Finals series. 2-0 lead.
Two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic had a triple-double of 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 12 assists for the Nuggets, but it was Murray who starred when it mattered most.
In the final quarter, he made 6 of 7 shots, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range, when Jokic and fellow starters Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Aaron Gordon were scoreless. 12 minutes full.
Murray’s exploits have been enough for a Nuggets team that has held onto the lead but couldn’t find a way to get past LeBron James and the Lakers through the first three periods at Denver Arena.
James and Austin Reaves scored 22 points for the Lakers, and Japanese backup forward Rui Hachimura scored 21 off the bench, but the Lakers couldn’t stem the tide when Murray came on.
The Lakers stretched their lead to 11 points in the second quarter before going empty-handed on ten straight attempts, a layup by James that ended the dry run.
LeBron also had nine rebounds and ten assists before finding Rui Hachimura for an alley-oop dunk that gave the Lakers a 53-48 halftime lead.
