What is a total bet or an Over/Under bet?
Total or Over/Under bets are bets on whether the total number of goals, points, or total points for a single game will be higher or lower than that set by the oddsmakers before the event. When placing a total bet, the bettor is only concerned with each team’s combined score at the end of the game.
Example:
Vikings +7 Over/Under 42
Packers -7
Steve likes the Packers and thinks they will score a lot in this game. So he’s betting on a “total over 42.” Steve wins his bet if the Packers and Vikings end the game with a combined score greater than 42. A total of 41 points or less will be considered a loss, and precisely 42 points will be regarded as a push or refund.
Unless otherwise stated, most sports books consider the end of the game to be the point at which the clock runs out, or the contest officially ends.
